Well… it’s been quite a long time since I last wrote something about things that are going on in my life. Now that the year ends, I’ll take the opportunity to sum up what has happened in recent months. 2011 passed in the blink of an eye. I remember starting school in late February and it feels like it was just yesterday. As every other year, some things changed while others, unfortunately, did not.
Academically, I began to walk new paths and left others, although not definitely. I kind of dropped out of the School of Languages. In reality, I became sick of it and decided that other things were more important: I started Graphic Design school in February, something which I had always thought of as a possibility but never actually thought it would happen. At first I was quite scared —to be honest— thinking that having an ardent interest in design was not enough; I thought I’d fail and leave after a few weeks. I learned that I was somewhat right : an interest is not enough and design can be an extremely complex discipline. I also discovered that I’m quite good at it. I have never posted anything I’ve done because I don’t feel confident enough to do it but I hope that will change soon. After all, it’s just uploading some files…
The best thing about GD School is its people. Although I haven’t adjusted a hundred percent yet, I learned not to judge people before I know them —which is something I didn’t think I did but I did, indeed, haha— and that there are still very good people out there. Most of the teachers are very involved in the learning process and they are very encouraging, always doing their best to help you improve.
I was pleased to know that my work had been selected twice to accompany and be the official identity of two important school events: the “Doors Open Day” —a event in which people who are not associated to the school can visit us and participate in different workshops, exhibitions, photo shoots, live radio, installations, and lectures on design and communication and see what we students do—; and also D+Indu : the End of the Year Fashion Show. There, I was also given the opportunity to VJ, which was absolutely amazing and a really cool experience !! Some other great things happened but I don’t remember right now… which brings me to another topic: mental health.
I continue to have short-term memory problems and it’s become a real nuisance. I always forget what I’m thinking / about to say, so I give the impression of being quite an incoherent person to those who don’t know me. Doctor says it’s probably stress, so he wants me to see a psychologist and if things don’t get any better I may have to see a neurologist. Another thing that worries me is that I’ve lost weight during the last few months. Right now, I weigh 127 pounds and I’m 170cm (5.57 ft) so I look extremely skinny and it sucks.
Unrelated: I got a new obsession : rocks and minerals !! I started my own collection and I’m looking forward to expanding it next year. So far I’ve got a few rocks: amethyst, geodite, desert rose, gold, and various quartz crystals. I started reading the Harry Potter books early this year, and Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man a few days ago…
I’m rather happy because this year I overcame a few complexes I had about parts of my body, so I guess I feel better now - freer.
My goals for next year are:
+ To get a job - I want to be working by July
+ Do well in school - both of them.
+ Gain weight - I would like to gain at least 16 pounds. I’ve talked to my doctor and he agreed to make a nutritional plan for me !!
+ Go back to the gym - and stay.
+ Finish that project. (self-wink)
+ Become more responsible.
+ Improve my writing skills because this post is awful.
